Today is the fourth birthday of me on this site! That's the longest time I've ever consistently stayed on a single website.
So if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna take a trip down memory lane a bit and give a brief history of my stuff on dA.
I originally came here because ~
heather-hellion was on here and I knew her in real life and...I figured, hey, I have art stuff too, and maybe I could get to know her better online.
I first started on ~
Tacster002 with a story called Recon Robotics (starring
Katina), and though it was a story I stuck with for a while, that year I realized how cliched it was, and how much my writing needed improving.
I drew anime back then, and though that isn't a problem, I was horrid at anatomy and shading, but sensitive to critique. I also relied on anime stock expressions (sweat drops, bulging veins, etc.) as my characters'
only expressions, so that's NO GOOD!
I also did fanart of Mario and Kirby and sometimes Klonoa so I guess that contributed to why people would watch me when my art was seriously so bad.
A few story attempts later, and soon I had characters like Kyuudo/Alterus, Mitsuke, Edmund, Demonte, and Autumn, which I could stick with, but I couldn't really connect them in a plot much. Nevertheless, my watchers liked them too, and I think that was the highest point of "popularity" my original characters had on this site...until now? With how I'm sticking with DtF, I wouldn't be surprised, since you guys seem interested.
I tried to revamp stuff more, and have a solid story, and by '06 I was grasping at straws to hold an audience. On New Year's '07 I had come up with the character
Edward Doubleday, star of a new story, and a style revamp. I switched accounts to this one, and started my cartoony leanings.
Ed's story eventually died out, and I cleared my gallery of pics relating to it, but I didn't stop making new ideas. Apocrypha Seven and Blackout followed, the former being more popular (I assume, since no one had to read anything?), but more complicated and less liked by me.
One of my biggest problems is that I wouldn't
stop making new ideas, so as I shifted from story to story, I was perfectly fine, but my watchers often got confused. Confusion doesn't keep an audience, so by summer '08 I decided, "I am going to make a story and I'm going to STAY with it!"
Thus I came back to DtF, which I made while I was moving in '05 to MA. And I'm happy to say, I've actually hardly gotten any new ideas since I decided it was my main story! It's not like I'm suppressing any urges, either--I seriously
can't come up with anything new. That should be a bad thing, but here, it's not! I have no idea how it happened, but I'm glad it did.
What's the funniest is that DtF, in its first two incarnations, was a joke story of sorts. My main story is a joke! Go me.
Lastly, I want to thank all
you guys, for watching me, for paying attention to this original stuff I spew all over, and for reading this journal. I really couldn't get anywhere without support, and though dA can have its crap, I'm glad it's a place where I can meet people that tell me that my ideas are something to go with, that my art is good, and that my characters are cool. I just...thanks. ;~;
